A stay on the remote Island of Sanday is something which just has to be experienced - no description does it real justice. You just have to imagine what it would be like to have a mere 30 minutes of darkness in the Summer season, or to witness at close hand the magic of the Northern lights, (aurora borealis), best viewed in April-May time and again in September-October.
To hear and feel the power and majesty of the mighty Atlantic Ocean in full force or to paddle gently in its clear blue waters just off the shore sometimes in the company of seals, puffins and even whales, defies description.
Sanday is the largest of the North Isles of Orkney and as the name suggests its most outstanding features are the sweeping bays with their white sandy beaches.
Steeped in history, Sanday has been the main feature of a television "Time Team" programme in which one of the island's several Viking burial sites was explored in depth by the archeaologists.
Sanday offers magnificent opportunities for fishing in both sea and lochs or for the study of unique flora and fauna. There are many local attractions including, of course, Sanday Light Railway.

However, you can't have everything. We are unable to offer our visitors a number of things. There are no roundabouts, no traffic lights and no air or noise pollution!

...and for those who enjoy a colder climate, Sanday can offer some spectacular settings! However, be prepared for some very chilly weather - have a look at our local thermal clothing available from Orkney Angora.

As members of the British Surfing Association we welcome surfers to the islands.
